Charlotte Fire crews assist in Burke County climber rescue

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Members of the Charlotte Fire Department were part of a high-angle rescue in Linville Gorge Sunday afternoon that involved multiple first responders.

Emergency crews were called to the Shortoff Mountain area near the Wolf Pit Trailhead after a climber had a significant fall.

Due to the location, North Carolina Emergency Management deployed the North Carolina Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team to support the rescue.

With the help of Burke County emergency crews on the ground, the team was able to reach the climber, who was treated by a Burke County paramedic.

The patient was extracted from the mountain and transferred to a medical helicopter for continued care.

The rescue began around 12:15 p.m. and was completed around 3 p.m.
