CHARLOTTE — Both sides of Brookshire Freeway were closed for over two hours Friday morning due to a medical emergency, according to MEDIC and CMPD.

CMPD said the freeway was closed between Caldwell Street and Davidson Street as officers de-escalated a situation with a suicidal person on the bridge that passes over the freeway.

All traffic was directed onto 11th and 12th Street.

Any drivers heading to uptown Charlotte from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. experienced heavy delays.

Channel 9 crews were at the scene, where there was a visible police and MEDIC presence on the Caldwell Street bridge.

We reached out to CMPD for more information on the nature of the emergency.
