FORT MILL, S.C. — Two boys have admitted to York County officials that they made up a story about a man trying to abduct them while walking to school last week.
York County detectives said the boys, 11 and 7, confessed to fabricating the story because they wanted to skip school for the day.
On April 11, the boys told authorities that a man with a knife and pliers approached them from the woods on Whitley Road in Fort Mill, and that they were able to run away.
Police later found a multi-tool near that scene but have determined that it was found earlier by the children.
Nearby Pleasant Knoll Elementary School was placed on exterior lockdown that entire morning while police investigated.
Officials have not said if the boys will face any charges.
