CHARLOTTE — James Dunmore, who is accused of killing Allisha Watts, had a probable cause hearing Thursday in a Montgomery County courtroom. He was charged with her murder.

Attorneys said police found Watts’ body about 300 yards into the woods in Montgomery County by using cellphone records and her car’s GPS, according to WRAL.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said detectives checked Dunmore’s doorbell camera.

Dunmore, who was Watts’ boyfriend, is accused of deleting videos from July 17-18, which were the days after people last saw Watts at his northeast Charlotte home.

Officers said they found Dunmore unresponsive in Watts’ SUV on July 18 in a DMV parking lot in Polkton. That’s where he overdosed on blood pressure medication, officials said.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office announced that her body had been found in a rural area of the town weeks later.

“Listening to how she was found and where she was found was just heavy,” said Watts’ mentor. “No one, not even an animal, should be tossed out like that.”

Dunmore had a history of domestic violence and served time in prison for kidnapping, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

He could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted.
