SALISBURY, N.C. — Federal authorities are investigating why a two people had a bomb and bomb-making materials inside a home in Salisbury.

Detectives raided the home Tuesday on Old Mocksville Road. They received a tip that Adam Anderson and Sebrina Carpenter were making meth and illegal explosives.

Officers said they found at least 10 one-pot meth labs and material used to make bombs which includes a ledger full of bomb-making recipes. Authorities said they also found a bomb made with potassium nitrate and sugar.

"Why a person would be making bombs is beyond me," said neighbor Tom McCora.

McCora told Channel 9's Tina Terry he suspected something strange was going on inside his neighbor's home.

"I've heard several booms and I know they were louder than any shotguns," McCora said.

Anderson was charged with making meth and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

"You wonder what's next. What was the ultimate thought behind this," McCora said.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is investigating what those bombs were intended for. Anderson and Carpenter could face federal charges.

The bomb-making materials found at the home were removed by the Cabarrus County Bomb Squad and rendered safe on site. The Rowan County Sheriff's Office also said all meth-making materials were safely removed from the home.
