CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating a gruesome discovery after a woman's body was found Wednesday in the woods near a shoe store in west Charlotte.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, along with the Medical Examiner's Office, responded to the Shoe Warehouse on Freedom Drive just before 6 p.m. Wednesday.

On Thursday night, CMPD announced that 61-year-old Jennifer Ann Banner's death was ruled as a homicide.
It's not clear what led to her death, which is the 86th homicide of 2019 in Charlotte.
No further information has been released.
