BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY — Blue Ridge Parkway officials have announced the national park will remain as accessible as possible throughout the government shutdown.

In a release, officials said park roads, overlooks, and trails along the parkway will remain accessible, but emergency and rescue services will be limited.

The National Park Service said there will not be any NPS-provided visitor services.

This means there will not be any public information, restrooms, trash collection, and facilities and road maintenance including plowing.

Officials said some lodging, restaurants, and other services will be available if not provided through the National Park Service.

BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY FACILITIES:

  • Park Roads: Roadways will be open, unless otherwise closed due to snow or ice
  • Trails: Open if accessible
  • Picnic Areas: Price Park Picnic Area will remain open as long as it is accessible; all other picnic areas are closed
  • Campgrounds: Closed
  • Gated Parking Areas: Open as long as road is accessible
  • Government Offices: Closed
    • Asheville Visitor Center: Closed
    • The Minerals Museum will be open, weather permitting
  • Concession Facilities: Open, weather permitting

Officials said the National Park Service social media and websites will not be monitored or updated as well due to the shutdown.
