CHARLOTTE — On the eve of the biggest night in franchise history, Charlotte FC continued its mission to make the sport more accessible to communities across the city.

Camino, a bilingual Charlotte nonprofit, received a new mini pitch on Friday from the club. It was installed in northeast Charlotte on Stetson Drive.

This is part of a larger initiative by Charlotte FC called Pitches for Progress. The project will install 22 pitches across Charlotte and the Carolinas.

“This is the most important piece,” said Nick Kelly, CEO of Tepper Sports & Entertainment. “If we don’t get this part right, in the long term this can’t be a sustainable type of winning program. So, anytime we have a big moment, there needs to be a community element as part of it.”

Charlotte FC’s first home match is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday against LA Galaxy.

Channel 9 is the official TV partner of the Charlotte FC.
