NORTH CAROLINA — Big safety improvements are coming to North Carolina’s railways, thanks to a $3 million grant.
The North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) will partner with N.C. State University to find ways to reduce accidents at highway crossings.
The program will focus on educating the public and workers about crossing hazards and safety practices.
Money for the program will come from the Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration.
“This unprecedented grant represents a transformative investment in rail safety, and we’re proud to see North Carolina benefit from this historic initiative,” Trish Haver, Chief Commercial Officer at NCRR, told Railway Age. “Partnering with NC State University allows us to focus on reducing collisions, injuries, and risks at rail crossings across the state, creating safer communities for all who live, work, and travel here.” Read more from Railway Age here.
