Big housing development planned in Lancaster County

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — An active homebuilder in the Charlotte region appears to be closing in on another large residential development.

On Tuesday, the Lancaster County Planning Commission approved a rezoning request and development agreement for LGI Homes, which is looking to rezone 278.9 acres with plans of developing a 590-lot single-family residential neighborhood, according to county documents. The project site, located at 2862 Charlotte Highway in Lancaster, is currently being used for agricultural purposes, documents say. It is located next to Lancaster Motor Speedway.

A schedule in the development agreement shows that 100 homes would be built in each of the first five years of construction, with the final 90 homes built in the sixth year. It is unclear when construction would begin for the project.
