CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A south Charlotte Ben & Jerry’s issued an apology Thursday after receiving backlash over a holiday event where Santa was not wearing a mask.
The ice creamery hosted an event with Santa Claus at its location on Fairview Road Wednesday night. The shop posted on its Facebook that “word from the North Pole is that Santa forgot his mask.”
The event went on as planned despite defying the governor’s statewide mask mandate.

Ben & Jerry’s later apologized, saying it “did not adhere to the strict processes and practices we have in place to support the safety of our customers and staff, including requiring masks, gloves, frequent sanitizing, and social distancing for all of our fans in our shop.”
The shop ended the apology by saying it made a mistake and hopes people find it in their hearts for “some good, old-fashioned forgiveness this holiday season.”
