BELMONT, N.C. — Almost all of the employees at the Belmont Police Department are being asked to answer questions during an investigation into their managers.
"It's disappointing when things get to the point that you have to take this step. But you really want to find out what's right and what's not right," said City Manager Barry Webb.
Webb said during exit interviews this year more than two employees had similar complaints about a manager.
"It began to be more of a consistency in what was coming forward," Webb said.
He said he can't reveal the manager's name or the nature of the complaints, but they do not rise to the level of criminal acts.
The City Council decided it is best to hire an outside firm, ISI in Huntersville, to investigate the Police Department and question employees.
Neither the police chief nor council members are talking about the complaints or the investigation that will cost about $15,000.
Mayor Charlie Martin said he has full confidence in Police Chief Charlie Franklin.
"The chief has been there over 20 years and has done a commendable job as far as I am concerned," he said.
Webb said ISI should complete their investigation in the next couple of weeks and report their findings to the City Council.
