CHERRYVILLE, N.C. — There’s an entire website dedicated to documenting the strange and interesting things people are spotted wearing while they’re shopping at Walmart, but last weekend it was something spotted outside the store in Cherryville that is capturing a lot of attention.
Don Burkey and his wife were stunned when they went out for a late-night snack around 1:30 a.m. Sunday and spotted a black bear at Walmart.
They were able to snap a few photos of it before it ran into the woods.
“I’ve never seen anything like it before.”

North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission biologist Danny Ray told the Gaston Gazette that it’s not unusual to spot a black bear in an urban or suburban setting bordering more rural areas.
“Stay away and give it room to move on,” Ray said. “If it’s a truly wild bear then he’s going to be out of there in pretty short order.”
