CHARLOTTE — Dozens of people went on a walk for survivors of cardiac arrest at Queens University Saturday.
The walk, hosted by the Omar Carter Foundation, took around 13 minutes to complete. Carter said that was how long he survived cardiac arrest.
Carter said he was playing basketball at the age of 25 when his heart stopped for several minutes.
Since then, Carter said he has made it his personal mission to educate and equip as many people as possible on life-saving techniques for sudden cardiac arrests.

Those techniques included teaching those who attended the walk how to perform CPR.
“So we’re able to train those in the community and then we partnered with queens as well to actually teach athletes here. So we had training with one of the teams, the women’s lacrosse team,” Carter said.
Carter’s story has been featured by Channel 9′s Dashawn Brown, as well as in an ESPN documentary called “13 Minutes.”
