CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Workers at Charlotte bars, restaurants and stores will get extra training Wednesday to cut down on underage drinking.
Police said it's a critical time, since college students are about to head back to campus.
A state task force is working with police and the ABC commission to give workers a refresher on how to spot fake IDs. This extra training will take place in college towns across the state.
It's received a lot of attention in Chapel Hill after troopers said a 20-year-old used a fake ID and drank at two bars before crashing into a car, killing two Charlotte women and a 6-year-old girl.
On Tuesday bar owners near N.C. State attended one of the training sessions there.
"We make sure everybody gets carded, everybody gets carded when they order an alcoholic beverage," said Tyler Mills. "Anyone that opens a restaurant or a bar should be held to a standard, to enforce the right rules."
Officers said that in the coming weeks they will have extra patrols going to businesses and enforcing the laws.
