LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — A Lancaster man is accused of kidnapping his girlfriend and leading authorities on a multistate chase Tuesday morning, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded at 6:20 a.m. to a house on Shiloh Unity Road on reports that a man had beaten a woman who also lives at that address.
Deputies said the man, identified as Clint Kiker, 27, forced the woman into a car and started driving to Union County, North Carolina.
Deputies alerted the Union County Sheriff’s Office and the Monroe Police Department.
When Monroe officers started chasing Kiker's car, the woman jumped out.
She told officials that Kiker beat her with his fists, a two-by-four board and a broom handle. She said he threatened to kill her if she did not get into the car with him.
She suffered non-life-threatening injuries to her face, head, torso, arms and legs. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Kiker continued to drive into Chesterfield County, even though he had run over spike strips, authorities said.
Kiker abandoned the car and fled on foot, authorities said. Officials from Lancaster and Chesterfield counties searched for him in woods off Highway 207 near Pageland, South Carolina.
A Lancaster County task force agent caught Kiker and took him into custody.
Kiker is charged with kidnapping and domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
“We are thankful this domestic violence victim was able to escape and that she did not suffer more serious injuries,” Sheriff Barry Faile said. “The rapid response to our calls for assistance to surrounding agencies resulted in the quick rescue of this young woman and the arrest of Kiker. We appreciate the help and are happy that Kiker is in jail.”
