Authorities followed a stolen sedan speeding down Interstate 85 and into northeast Charlotte shortly before 3 p.m. Friday.

According to police, Michael Anderson was behind the wheel. He's facing several charges including larceny of a motor vehicle, eluding arrest and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The car could be seen from Chopper 9 weaving in and out of traffic on the interstate and even passing vehicles on the shoulder.

The silver sedan got off onto North Tryon Street going southbound and continued to speed through traffic.

At one point, Anderson let out a passenger and continued driving along North Tryon.

The car drove into oncoming traffic and got back into the southbound lanes.

It managed to squeeze in between cars at different intersections ignoring traffic signals.

Anderson avoided traffic at times by jumping curbs and cutting through yards and across sidewalks.

The police chopper was overhead as well. A few police cruisers could be seen following the vehicle.

A brief foot chase happened after Anderson ditched the car.

Officers in the police helicopter reported at about 3:10 p.m. that he was in custody.

Anderson started driving dangerously after the police got a hit from his license plate, police said.

He will make his first appearance in Mecklenburg County Court at 1 p.m. Monday.
