CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Authorities across Mecklenburg County talked about safety with business managers and promoters Tuesday ahead of major upcoming events, including the NBA All-Star Game and the CIAA and ACC tournaments.

“You have people coming from all parts of the United States who don’t necessarily know our laws and our rules here,” CMPD Detective Travis Cook said.
The information session touched on subjects including screening, drugs and watching out for too much alcohol consumption.
“A lot of it is alcohol, overconsumption,” Wet Willies general manager Sean Ludden said.
Detectives also said there will be a sign posted at every venue that has a permit listing numbers someone can either call or text, in case of human trafficking.

“It's always easier for us to tell them what we are looking for now,” Cook said. “That way, they have no surprises during the event.”
