CHARLOTTE — If you used Atrium Health earlier this year, you may be the victim of a data breach.

Atrium said it uses a popular company, Blackbaud, to manage its software, and that Blackbaud had a ransomware attack recently.

Atrium officials said hackers had access to patient information from Feb. 7 to May 20.

The hackers may have your name, contact information, date of birth, date of treatment, location of service, and doctor’s name. But they should not have your Social Security number, credit card information, bank information, or health information, according to Atrium, becsaue Blackbaud did not handle that data.

Apparently, Blackbaud paid the hackers the ransom to delete the data and hired a third-party to see if the criminals posted patient’s personal information online anyway. So far, Atrium says they have not found any evidence of that.

Even though your financial information shouldn’t be at risk, Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke suggests to do these three things:

  • Keep a close eye on your bank accounts
  • Think about adding a fraud alert to your credit
  • Freeze it if you haven’t already
