CHARLOTTE — Less than a week after revealing where it would build Charlotte’s first four-year medical school, Atrium Health has filed a rezoning petition for the land in midtown.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Hospital Authority, which is Atrium, on Monday filed a rezoning petition for 14.3 acres — including parcels on Baxter, South McDowell and East Morehead streets — with the city of Charlotte. Atrium is seeking MUDD-O, or mixed-use development district with optional provisions, for the land.

The purpose of the petition is to allow a multi-use development that would contain medical school, research, medical office, office, residential, retail and hotel uses, according to the rezoning application filed. Atrium Health, Wake Forest Baptist Health and Wake Forest School of Medicine — which made their partnership official late last year — will build a four-year medical school on the land.
