UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Charlotte-based Atrium Health is moving forward with plans to open a new hospital in western Union County.

Atrium filed the application Monday for a certificate of need to build a 150,000-square-foot facility, dubbed Atrium Health Union West, on the corner of U.S. Highway 74 and Stallings Road in Stallings. The proposed hospital would include 40 beds, including 30 beds for medical/surgical patients, six for labor and delivery and four for intensive care.

Atrium’s plan also includes 10 bays for an emergency department, a helipad and two general operating rooms. Also in the works are a gastrointestinal endoscopy suite and a separate operating room for C-sections. The hospital would provide imaging, laboratory and pharmacy services.
