CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte’s rival health-care systems are vying for state approval to expand their footprints in Mecklenburg County.
Charlotte-based Atrium Health filed a certificate of need seeking approval for a $32 million project that would add 50 acute-care beds to Carolinas HealthCare System-Pineville.
Meanwhile, Winston-Salem-based Novant Health filed a competing application proposing to add 12 obstetric acute-care beds and one operating room to its Huntersville Medical Center. That project has a $7.1 million price tag.
North Carolina’s 2018 State Medical Facilities Plan identified a need for 50 beds in Mecklenburg County, based on projected patient needs in 2020.
