CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The residential component of a $100 million-plus revamp to Atherton Mill in South End is preparing to come online, as Charlotte developer Crescent Communities is now pre-leasing units at the mid-rise apartment community.

Novel Atherton is a 346-unit apartment development at Atherton Mill, where Crescent has teamed up with Columbia, South Carolina-based developer Edens for a refresh of the historic property that dates back to the 1920s. In addition to apartments, several retailers — including anchor tenant West Elm, which is set to open in September — have signed on to the project that will result in 60,000 square feet of new retail space to South End.
