CHARLOTTE — New details are emerging after the man accused of killing a former Greensboro police officer in Uptown Charlotte was returned to Mecklenburg County.
Tyrell Valentine is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Manuel Martinez outside an Uptown apartment complex earlier this month.
According to arrest documents, Valentine initially got into a fight with a friend of Martinez’s. Investigators said Valentine left the apartment but returned about 45 minutes later with a gun.
Another fight then broke out, and documents allege Valentine shot Martinez several times.
Valentine was arrested in South Carolina earlier this month. He was returned to Mecklenburg County on Wednesday and is now being held in the county jail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
