CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Emergency crews were called to the scene Wednesday morning after an armored truck apparently crashed in northwest Charlotte and ended up in a creek.

The wreck happened just before 8:30 a.m. on Oakdale Road near Interstate 485.
Firefighters from the Charlotte Fire Department as well as Long Creek Fire Department were called to help get the crew out of the truck and onto dry land.

Channel 9 could see a ladder that had been extended from the creek bank to the top of the Garda truck, which was partially submerged in Long Creek.
The two people who were inside the truck were conscious and were able to climb up on the truck to wait for first responders.
A MEDIC supervisor said they put the two people on stretchers and carried them to an ambulance.
“They are bumped up pretty good, but we took them with what’s considered potentially life-threatening injuries. We didn't see anything obvious, but we took them to the hospital just to be checked out, just to ensure there isn't anything we aren't seeing,” MEDIC supervisor Don Shue said.
Hazmat crews were also called to the scene due to an apparent fuel spill from the vehicle into the creek.

Stormwater services and the Environmental Protection Agency were also called to the scene.
The fire department set up a couple of traps to catch the fuel, so it didn’t spread.
“It basically absorbs the fuel that is floating on top of the water. We put it across the water, and it will collect it,” Battalion Chief Tim Hartsell with Charlotte Fire Department said.
Oakdale Road was closed in both directions. The vehicle has since been towed.
This was the second serious accident Channel 9 has covered in the Oakdale Road and I-485 area this week. Drivers said a driver was speeding Tuesday when he hit a Charlotte family’s car from behind. Both vehicles flipped, and it led to an intense rescue to help get four people to the hospital.
Officials said a contractor will clean up the fuel from Wednesday's crash and check the water quality.
It was unclear what caused the accident. Police said the driver won't be charged.
