CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Apple Inc. made a landmark announcement for the state of North Carolina on Monday. The tech giant unveiled its plans to invest $1 billion into the state, headlined by a new campus in Research Triangle Park. The Wake County facility will be 1 million square feet and come with at least 3,000 new jobs, Apple.
But of the $1 billion investment, nearly half will be spent in the Charlotte region.

State incentives documents show that Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) will spend $448 million to expand in Catawba County, where the company has long had a data center. The documents state that $308 million will be spent on real property construction and improvements, while the remaining $140 million will be for personal property. The investment will take place over the next 10 years.
Apple said, though, that all of the job creation from its new investments will take place in Wake County.
The company did not respond to a request for more information about the specifics of the expansion in Catawba County. Local leaders said they were unsure of the details.
