ANSON COUNTY, N.C. — In a historic moment for Anson County, the local youth athletic league is sending not one, but two baseball teams to the Dixie Youth World Series.

The teams are in two different age groups, including players between eight and 12 years old.

Both of the teams earned invitations to the Dixie World Series in Ruston, Louisiana.

One coach told Channel 9 that the winning moment came in dramatic fashion. His team was down two runs in the final inning, and his son Kaleb Martin was next at bat.

“I was nervous because it was the last inning and we were down,” Martin said.

“And he came up and hit a home run and won the state championship,” said Mike Jones, the team manager. “It was honestly the most proud moment as a coach and a dad that I’ve ever had, honestly.”

The Minors team, comprised of 11 eight-year-olds, went undefeated in their season.

The two teams are raising money to cover their expenses for the trip, and several local businesses have stepped up. If you want to donate to help them, you can contact them on the Anson Athletic Youth Association Facebook page.
