CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Wesley Baptist Methodist Church has been a fixture in the west Charlotte community for decades -- a place of worship, faith and hope.

Now, the nearly 100-year-old piece of history is slated to become condos.

Community members such as the non-profit Historic West End Partners have been fighting against the plan and had a plan to preserve the church, but as of Monday it is a done deal -- the church is now owned by the developer.

“This is very special, this place,” Bishop Ricky Williams said. “It’s going to mean the public can never get in it again. You get attached to it. You have mixed feelings about it.”

Watch the video above as Eyewitness News anchor Genevieve Curtis shows us there’s still hope -- this landmark could get a lifeline.
