CHARLOTTE, N.C. — American Airlines anticipates it could furlough hundreds of employees in Charlotte this spring as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to stifle travel, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification sent to the state on Friday.
The North Carolina Department of Commerce received notice from American Airlines Group Inc. late Friday afternoon of its plans to furlough as many as 781 workers at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in addition to a hangar, cargo facility, receiving building and training location.
American also said it will permanently eliminate 40 jobs in Charlotte on April 1.
