American Airlines set to bring back its London flight at Charlotte airport

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — American Airlines is preparing to soon resume service to London from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. That would make it the first nonstop European route returning at CLT since the pandemic forced those flights to be grounded this spring.

American is set to bring back nonstop service between Charlotte Douglas and London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) for the winter travel season, which runs from Oct. 24 through March 27, spokesman Andrew Trull told CBJ. Service would initially be limited to three weekly flights, down from two flights per day before the pandemic took hold and caused travel to plunge.

The flights would operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from CLT during that time, the spokesman said. American’s website, as of Monday, lists Nov. 4 as the first such date in which tickets can be purchased for the London flight.

“We are resuming service to match demand,” Trull said. “Flights to LHR will also allow customers to connect further with our Joint Business Partner, British Airways.”
