CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Before the pandemic, the owners of the popular bakery Amélie’s had announced plans to relocate its flagship café at 2424 N. Davidson Street to a new location just down the street. However, the COVID-19 outbreak and all its uncertainties halted construction. Now, with business closer to “normal,” the owners have decided to push forward with their original plan.
On Thursday, Amélie’s announced its official lease signing at 136 East 36th Street, which is 1.2 miles away from the current location.
“Like many businesses in the hospitality industry, we were forced to change our plans and focus on getting through these difficult times. We have always loved this location and are thrilled to be restarting this project,” said Amélie’s CEO and co-owner Frank Reed in a news release.
“Our existing NoDa location is what started everything for Amélie’s and we’re happy to continue to strengthen our relationship with the community with this move,” he added.

The new 7,000 square foot location will maintain Amélie’s famous eccentric and quirky décor plus offer a few new features, including a patio area and an open kitchen to allow guests to see how their favorite treats are made. Guests can also expect the same handmade delicacies, French pastries, coffee, build-your-own breakfast sandwiches, soups, salads and of course the macarons and salted caramel brownies they’ve become known for.
The new location is expected to open by spring 2022.
In addition to the NoDa location, Amélie’s operates three other locations in Rock Hill, Carmel Commons and Park Road.
