Arrest made after abducted 2-year-old SC girl found safe

CAYCE, S.C. — An Amber Alert for a 2-year-old South Carolina girl has been canceled and an arrest has been made after police said the child was found safe.

Authorities in Cayce said Carlee Folk was abducted Tuesday night outside a motel. It happened about 8:50 p.m. at the Quality Inn on Charleston Highway.

She was inside a car with a dog when a man jumped in and drove away.

Folk and the dog were later found safe, but police had been searching for the suspect in the hours that followed.

Just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities said they had arrested Shyheem Malik Phillips in connection with the case.

Earlier in the day, police had identified Phillips as a person of interest in the case.

No other information has been released.
