CONCORD, N.C. — Eyewitness News has confirmed online retail giant Amazon is preparing to open a distribution center in Concord. Channel 9 uncovered the initial plans back in September, but Tuesday the city's mayor gave Channel 9 new details about the possible jobs the facility will create.

Mayor Scott Padgett said the facility could mean anywhere from 150 to 300 jobs.

Amazon has remained tight-lipped about the details, but there are Amazon signs all over the facility still under construction at the Concord Airport Business Park.

"I think Amazon is going to have crews in here working here this weekend and start up first of December," Padgett said.

People in Concord are excited about the changing economic climate.

"It will help," Matthew Cleaves said. "It will be a great thing."

Residents told Channel 9 that many people in the area will apply to work at the center.

"We need jobs," Christell Morrison said. "There's a lot of people who need work."
