CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — A Chester man whose arrest led to the removal of Alex Underwood as Chester County sheriff is suing the department.
Kevin Simpson has filed a lawsuit against the Chester County Sheriff's Office.
Underwood is facing charges related to Simpson's arrest last November.

The charges against Underwood stemmed from Simpson videotaping the aftermath of a wreck following a police chase from the yard of his home.
The video shows Simpson arguing with Underwood, and moments later, the former sheriff used excessive force to grab Simpson and illegally arrest him, according to federal documents.

The documents also stated Underwood unlawfully jailed Simpson, searched his home without a warrant, tampered with his phone and even lied to the FBI about what happened.

Simpson's newly filed lawsuit claims the "Defendant County's officer(s) involved with Plaintiff's arrest and prosecution, were grossly negligent and recklessly breached their duties.."
Simpson is seeking a trial by jury and for "actual and special damages in the amount to be determined by the jury."
Underwood and two deputies also facing charges pleaded not guilty earlier this year.
