Alleged Monroe burglary suspect found hiding in dumpster

MONROE, N.C. — Officers with the Monroe Police Department say they found a breaking and entering suspect hiding inside a dumpster early Friday morning.

Police say they responded around 1:35 a.m. to an alarm at a smoke shop on East Franklin Street. When they arrived, they noticed the front door of the business had been shattered.

After searching the building without finding anyone, they ventured outside and discovered the suspect, 39-year-old Anthony White, covered in trash and pretending to be asleep in the dumpster. Police say he also had a duffle bag full of stolen items with him.

White was taken into custody and charged with breaking and entering, felony larceny and injury to personal property.

He is being held in the Union County Detention Center.
