FORT MILL, S.C. — It's a green light for Piedmont Medical Center — the health-care group that for 15 years has sought to build a hospital in Fort Mill.

The South Carolina Supreme Court on Thursday denied a request from Charlotte-based Atrium Health to review a Court of Appeals decision granting Piedmont Medical the rights to build a hospital. This was the second request from Atrium denied by the Supreme Court.
"We're just overjoyed with the ability to go in there, build a hospital and be a bigger part of this community," says Piedmont Chief Executive Mark Nosacka, who spoke briefly at a press conference on Thursday.
Piedmont Medical, a subsidiary of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corp., was the first to apply for a certificate of need in 2004 to build a 64-bed hospital.
