CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An affordable-housing developer out of Lexington, Kentucky, will make its market debut here with a project breaking ground this month in east Charlotte.

Winterwood, in a joint venture with Charlotte-based Lumina Partners, will develop a 168-unit project off Barrington Drive and Milton Road, near the intersection of Sharon Amity Road and East W.T. Harris Boulevard. All apartments will be affordable to renters earning 60% of the area median income, said Zach Worsham, chief operating officer at Winterwood.
The project is expected to break ground within two weeks, he said.
