LANCASTER, S.C. — Lancaster County School officials are concerned about what could happen in an active shooter situation after laying out a $20 million list of critical safety needs.
First responders and law enforcement officers were at A.R. Rucker Middle School on Tuesday to conduct a training drill, and those needs were highlighted. They include things like exterior lighting, fencing, and even camera systems that can help collect information before police arrive.
“When they get there, we want to be able to tell them exactly where in the building the threat is. We want to give them the possibility to see that through the camera system, we want them to have the most up-to-date information,” said Bryan Vaughn with Lancaster County Schools.
Channel 9′s Tina Terry learned about one critical need that could lead to an “extremely dangerous situation” if a shooter were to descend on a campus.
In the video at the top of the page, see what that critical need is, and how the district can address it.
