Action 9 helps local church get online order resolved after multiple shipping delays

MARSHVILLE, N.C. — Leaders at Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church had decided it was time to replace the building’s old metal chairs with nicer, more comfortable seats. It was going to be a big expense for the small church in Marshville so Tanyon Martin shopped around.

She found a company called Kingdom Chairs and purchased 50 chairs for about $1,700. The company told Martin the chairs would be delivered in six to eight weeks.

“That ship date changed about four times,” she told Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke. “The reasoning behind the change was first, it was the hurricanes and then it was COVID. It was suppliers. They couldn’t get the fabrics.”

She said two months turned into seven and the church still didn’t have the chairs so that’s when she contacted Action 9.

After Stoogenke contacted the company, Martin said someone contacted her within 48 hours to tell her they could have the chairs shipped the very next day, but that she would need to change the color.

She agreed to those terms, and a few days later the chairs arrived.

“We would probably still be going back and forth if it wasn’t for [Action 9] jumping in,” she said.

Martin was disappointed when she noticed one chair was damaged and another one didn’t match the rest, but she hopes the company will resolve these issues.

Stoogenke emailed the company again but has not received a response at the time of this report.

He offers these tips to online shoppers:

  • Read the fine print and know the company’s refund and return policy.
  • Use a credit card to make purchases so it’s easier to dispute charges.
  • Keep good records.
  • Research the company by checking reviews to see if other customers have reported problems and if they were resolved.
