CHARLOTTE — The Atlantic Coast Conference’s site-selection team is expected to make a second visit to Charlotte next week and a decision on its headquarters could come within a month, according to sources with knowledge of the search process.

Charlotte is believed to be the front runner to land the ACC. The conference has been based in Greensboro since its start in 1953.

The 15-member ACC includes four N.C. schools: Duke University, N.C. State, UNC Chapel Hill, and Wake Forest University.

In October, the ACC disclosed the conference, after a review by national real estate consultant Newmark Group Inc., had decided to consider cities beyond Greensboro for its headquarters office. A vote by the 15-member board that runs the ACC, made up of each school’s president, will determine where the league goes.
