The Atlantic Coast Conference brought its baseball tournament to Charlotte for the first time in 20 years this spring. And now it’s returning in 2022, from May 24-29 at Truist Field.
It’s easy to see why the conference wanted to go extra innings here. The six-day, 15-game tournament attracted a total of 58,516 fans — an increase of 37% over the 42,774 people who attended the 2019 tournament in Durham. That ranks fifth for attendance in tournament history.
A new economic impact study of the 2021 tournament compiled by the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority was released today to coincide with the announcement. It found that the tournament brought 17,000 visitors to town, adding $5.4 million in direct spending for the week. The overall economic impact was estimated to be $9.5 million.
Executives from the ACC, the Charlotte Knights and the local tourism industry made the announcement this morning at Truist Field in uptown.
