Truck crashes into pole, knocks out power to thousands in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Thousands of people in east Charlotte are without power after a truck crashed into a power pole late Monday night.

The crash happened just before midnight on Parkton Road, near Albemarle Road.

At one point, there were 7,000 people without power and all the traffic lights were out along Albemarle Road from Lawyers Road to Cabarrus County.

Now, power outages are down to about 2,000 people.

Police said one person was taken to the hospital, but they are expected to be OK.

Duke Energy estimates everyone’s power will be back on by 9 a.m.
