CHARLOTTE — This holiday season, the American Automobile Association is providing a free service to help keep impaired drivers off the road.
AAA activated its Tow to Go program in Charlotte on Christmas Eve.
When someone needs a ride, AAA dispatches a tow truck and the driver and their car are transported for free to a safe location within 10 miles.
The rides are free for AAA members and non-members. Only one person and their car can be transported at a time.
For more than 25 years, AAA officials said they’ve given rides to over 25,000 drivers.
“At the moment, when you’re tempted to get behind the wheel while impaired, think again and allow wisdom to guide you,” AAA spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said. “Set aside those keys and let your fingers dial Tow to Go.”
Officials underscored that drivers can’t schedule a Tow to Go ride in advance. They encourage drivers to plan ahead and to use the program as a last resort.
The program runs through Thursday, Jan. 2, at 6 a.m.
