AA flight en route to Miami diverted to CLT due to possible mechanical issues, officials say

CHARLOTTE — American Airlines Flight 629 was diverted to Charlotte Douglas International Airport Thursday night due to a potential mechanical issue, officials with the airline said.

The Boeing 737-800 (not a MAX) with 181 passengers and six crew members departed from New York JFK.

The aircraft was traveling to Miami when it experienced issues.

The aircraft landed at Charlotte Douglas without incident at about 9 p.m., officials said.

The airliner taxied to its gate under its own power and passengers got off it without any injuries reported, officials said.

Crews are checking the plane, which was taken out of service, for evaluation.

The passengers were transferred to another plane for Miami.
