CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It’s been a tough month for Jonathan Roblero, 9, whose arms and legs are still covered in bandages Wednesday.
He was sent to a hospital April 10 after he was attacked by two pit bills while playing in a south Charlotte park. He finally returned home Friday.
Picture of his injuries were gruesome. Doctors had to use a skin graft to fix some of his wounds.
The attack happened at Archdale Neighborhood Park in south Charlotte, not far from his home.
Jonathan said he was playing soccer with friends when the dogs attacked.
Jonathan's aunt said it was the worst day of her life.
“They tackled him to the ground and dragged him,” Courtney Ault said.
At that point, people rushed to help fend off the dogs. Jonathan was helpless.
“I want to say thank you to all the people that helped get the dogs off of me,” he said. “It’s a miracle.”
Jonathan's injuries are so serious, he can barely walk. Members of his family said they're thankful there's no permanent damage. They are trying to keep Jonathan’s spirits up.
“When it first happened, he told my mom, his mom that he didn’t think it wasn't going to live,” Ault said.
Since the attack, family members said he's afraid to even go outside or see another dog.
Channel 9 checked in with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control. A representative said the two dogs were euthanized, and the owner won't face charges.
It’s not sitting right with the family which is now focused on Jonathan’s long recovery.
“None of this wouldn't have happened if he would have checked to see if the dogs were put up right,” Ault said.
