CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 9-year-old boy was seriously injured Sunday after a dog attack, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on a wooded path near Archdale Neighborhood Park in the south Charlotte area. Officials said the boy was playing when he was attacked.
The boy was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.
One dog, a 3-year-old pit bull mix, was found and is being held for the required 10-day rabies quarantine. The second dog is a 6-year-old pit bull mix. Officials said the dogs were not up on its rabies shot.
The dogs were owned by the same person. Originally, Animal Control only took one dog because at that time it was believed to be the only one involved. The second dog has been taken into custody.
The stepfather of a boy attacked by two dogs in a south Charlotte park said he is still in pain but is doing better.
Jonathan Roblero was playing in Cherrycrest Park Monday when two dogs attacked and bit him from head to heel.
“He has a little pain, but he is fine,” said Genaro Rosales, Jonathan’s stepfather.
He shared photos of the little boy lying in a hospital bed with his arms and legs bandaged. One picture shows stitches on the side of his face and right ear.
Police have not said if the owner could face charges, but Jonathan’s stepfather said owners of dogs like that have to know that it can be dangerous to neglect them.
He said the family hopes Jonathan will be able to come home from the hospital by the end of the week.
This is an ongoing, active investigation, police said.
