88-year-old man dies in Burke County crash, troopers say

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — An 88-year-old man died following a collision on Rhodhiss Road in Burke County on Saturday morning, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. when a 2012 Buick Lacrosse, driven by Joe Luey Fulbright of Connelly Springs, attempted to turn left from a private driveway and collided with a westbound 2007 Dodge Dakota.

Fulbright was airlifted to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Dakota was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The initial investigation by the NC State Highway Patrol indicated that neither impairment nor speed were contributing factors to the collision.

No charges are expected to be filed.
