CHARLOTTE — The Whitewater Center has unveiled plans for several new features, including a new 70-acre dog park.
The new dog park area, which is expected to open this fall, will feature a lakefront beach, water and trail access, and a new complex that will include an open-air beer garden.
The center has always been dog-friendly, but the new area will allow dogs to be off-leash.
All dog breeds and sizes are welcome in the off-leash area.
People can use the off-leash area for free. Guests with dogs must have a pass to enter the area.
Adult annual pass holders may add one dog to their activity pass to access the off-leash area. Adult day pass holders may add one dog to their activity pass on the day of their visit to access the off-leash area.
A single activity pass to access the off-leash area for one dog for a single day visit costs $10.
Dog passes are non-transferable, and owners are responsible for their dogs at all times and in all areas at the center. Canines are the only animals or pets permitted in the off-leash environment.
The anticipated grand opening is Nov. 17.
More new features
Three new experiences in the Canyon area will open in September. The activities include a network of ziplines, two new suspension bridges spanning 700 feet, and high ropes elements that go over the Canyon’s north and south rim, reaching heights over 80 feet. The hub will be accessible to annual and day pass holders beginning Sept 1.
In addition, the first phase of a new outdoor immersion and play facility called “Wildwoods” will open in winter 2024. The new complex will feature a challenge course and playscape experience open to all ages and experience levels. It will span 3-acres and include numerous tree houses, bouldering walls, swinging bridges, cargo net climbs, floating hammocks, obstacle elements, and other features with a focus on integrating environmental education and play within a natural environment.
