CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two employees at a local Amazon facility have tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the total of cases inside local facilities to 7.

Channel 9′s Joe Bruno confirmed Thursday that the newest cases involved two employees at the Amazon Fulfillment Center (CLT2) on Old Dowd Road in west Charlotte.

A spokesperson told Channel 9 that they are paying the sick employees and notifying anyone who came in contact with them to quarantine for two weeks.

The company also said they have asked employees to sanitize and clean their work stations at the start and end of every shift.

But with thousands of employees in the Charlotte area, some workers told Bruno that the sanitation request is hard to enforce, not always happening and that they would like to see the facilities closed for a period of time for a deep cleaning.

One employee, who asked to remain anonymous, said people are on edge in the facilities and worried that they will be exposed to COVID-19 and bring it home to their families.

“It is a great business. Don’t get me lying. It is a good business to work for. Benefits are great. It is just right now they are not putting our health first,” the employee said.

Amazon has made masks available for workers and daily temperature checks are in place.

Anyone with a temperature above 100.4 is being sent home, but will still receive 5 hours of pay for the day.
