Bond denied for 5 alleged gang members tied to Lake Wylie killings

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

Five alleged gang members connected to the murders of a Lake Wylie couple asked to be released from jail while awaiting trial. A federal magistrate said no to every one of them.

The four men and one woman were among a dozen people indicted last week accused of plotting and executing a plan to kill Doug and Debbie London.

Federal prosecutors say all of them are associated with the United Blood Nation (UBN) gang.

Rahkeem McDonald, Ahkeem McDonald, Randall Hankins, Daquan Everett and Centrilla Leach appeared before Judge David Cayer requesting a bond. Prosecutors, however, called them all too dangerous to set free.

"There is no condition that would reasonably assure the safety of the community," said Prosecutor Beth Greene.

Greene outlined new details in the federal investigation of the case. She said shortly after the murders of the Londons, Rahkeem McDonald burned a letter that contained written instructions for the killings.

Greene also said an FBI search found the murder weapon buried near a home where at least three alleged gang members lived.

She said the FBI has recordings of conversations between alleged ringleader, Jamel Cureton, and Randall Hankins, in which Cureton allegedly discussed the murder plot. Greene read aloud from a transcript, saying Hankins said, "I'm already on it.  We got a plan."

Investigators said the Londons were murdered, because Doug London was the only witness in a robbery case involving Cureton.

They said Cureton was shot by Doug London during the robbery and that the murder plot was retaliation.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Prosecutors said federal agents aren't the only ones who used surveillance techniques. They said Centrilla Leach, who was Cureton's girlfriend, followed Debbie London and even took pictures of her when she attended a hearing in the robbery case.

Family members packed the small courtroom during the hearings and mouthed, "I love you" to the suspects. Outside, Ellen Durham, a friend of Randall Hankins' mother said she wasn't sure what to make of the allegations.

"The truth will come out," Durham said. "Whatever it is."

Each of the defendants whose bond was denied pleaded not guilty and asked for a jury trial.

One defendant, Nehemijel Houston, had his case continued until later in the week.
